Part 4 of our series steers us away from Impressionism and enters the world of Post Impressionism. One of the most popular artists of this movement was Vincent van Gogh. I did my best to summarize his life in one sheet. (Page 1 in pdf downloadable below this paragraph.) I suggest that you read the page first and determine if it appropriate for your student. I did not know how to talk about van Gogh without touching on mental illness, the asylum where he painted some of his works, and the severing of his own ear. I did my best to make it age appropriate for my soon-to-be 9 year old, but if you have a younger student you may want to omit some of the biography page. I left it vague, and assume my son will ask questions if he wants to understand more. If my son asks questions, we usually use the internet to look up information on the spot so he sees how to research things for himself in the future.
The pdf above has 3 worksheets that I made to accompany our YouTube video located here:
Feel free to use the worksheets for free. I make them for my son, and will eventually use them again for my little one when he gets a bit older.
We hope your students like our newest video, and hope you're having a wonderful start to 2021!
